I like the idea of the Truck Number… I think ours is pretty darn low, actually.
I will not waste my time talking about how awesome Bruce Sterling is; Bruce's Wired blog, Beyond the Beyond is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with him.
This book is truly an Object that will be loved by designers. The Mediaworks Pamphlet Series creates books you want to hold and flip through again and again. The design of the book, by Lorraine Wild, is fun, experimental, thoughtful and strangely easy to follow, despite meandering lines connecting words, the interspersed use of multiple fonts, and a liberal use of a crazy ass green.
Shaping Things is about the future of stuff in our lives, and about the stuff that has been in our lives up until now, creating an offbeat theory of the interplay between technology and culture.
It's a fun read, a page turner that will keep you thinking; every page I read I felt as if I was looking through the porthole of a ship traveling through a clear broth at a natural history museum. Strange.
Oh, a little detail that I loved: every page has a unique subhead that describes the musings of that page. So many of the subheads are goofy and hilarious.
