I took ZZ to Cornerstone Gardens this weekend, which was great fun. Cornerstone is located in the Carneros District of Sonoma on Hwy 121 just south of Schellville. It is a great place to roam with your kiddos, and a lot of fun for adults as well. Some of the rooms are a little haggard, but I expect that they will be getting dressed up soon, in time for all of the events they have in the pipeline.
On top of the fab gardens, there are some great stuff merchants as well, selling great old broken cool things and funky sculptures. It looks like there are serious plans to expand. The food, as well, is totally rockin'.
All in all, a great way to spend half a day.
I will not waste my time talking about how awesome Bruce Sterling is; Bruce's Wired blog, Beyond the Beyond is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with him.
This book is truly an Object that will be loved by designers. The Mediaworks Pamphlet Series creates books you want to hold and flip through again and again. The design of the book, by Lorraine Wild, is fun, experimental, thoughtful and strangely easy to follow, despite meandering lines connecting words, the interspersed use of multiple fonts, and a liberal use of a crazy ass green.
Shaping Things is about the future of stuff in our lives, and about the stuff that has been in our lives up until now, creating an offbeat theory of the interplay between technology and culture.
It's a fun read, a page turner that will keep you thinking; every page I read I felt as if I was looking through the porthole of a ship traveling through a clear broth at a natural history museum. Strange.
Oh, a little detail that I loved: every page has a unique subhead that describes the musings of that page. So many of the subheads are goofy and hilarious.
Let us know what is going on!!
ZZ looking ridiculously rad sporting her new grill. She looks tough with her forehead bruise, too. Of course, it was acquired chasing after a little boy trying to hug him. I don't know if that is tough or a sign of future trouble. Oi!
